This is one sick fucking kid...

Basically, I want to know your thoughts on how he should be punished. Hypothetically, should he get the death penalty(if he could... not allowed in Iowa)? Should he be sent to a mental hospital for the rest of his life? Should we throw him in prison for life? I want to see your reactions before I post my thoughts.

He shot and killed two people, one of them was a mother of 10 (?) children... So 1 bullet is enough?

No, shoot him in every joint on his body(wrist, shoulders, ankles, etc.) and let him suffer a bit, and then shoot him in his heart after a day...if he hasn't bled out by then

Should get death. Kill people for cigarettes and cash? Srsly? They even complied with the guy and he still shot them. Doesn't deserve life, a form of torture is something along the lines of what he really deserves...

Death penalty killing people is the stupidest thing if there innocent. But if they committed mass murder kill them and if they killed some one you love i give you the go ahead to kill them. But this guy had no reason to kill these store clerks i say prison for life or death. I also like your idea of killing him data.

here's my view on punishment to crime period, you deserve w/e you did, but twice as bad

you rape, you get raped twice
you steal, you pay whoever you stole from twice the amount you stole
you kill, you get killed the same way, just a shit-ton more painful...or get bludgeoned with billard balls shot out of baseball pitching machines
that way it hurts like hell getting hit, and you bleed internally which is even more painful, and we don't have to get our guys close when executing the criminal

Only 2 people? :\ Out of the billions I don't see why this matters. It will be forgotten about in about 2 weeks.

I'm not one to care about life. I have a very different view, many would disagree with.

Because he's 17 in a state w/o death penalty... The decision of this trial affects TONS of other situations around the States...

He's 17 and due to the gravity of his actions is going to be trialed as an adult, right? I say life sentence. Let's face it, an eye for an eye justice is retarded and American jails are pretty damn decent at keeping people in jail. Use it. The American justice system works in the respect that jails work.

I'm moving this to General Discussion since it's not much of an intellectual debate as it is a 'what should happen' and most people aren't posting according to the rules anyway.

If someone wants to start a debate on the justice system and how it should work, feel free to do so in NP.

I have to agree with pornfish. I understand that my beliefs on the afterlife may differ from some or most of you... but the fact is I don't believe in heaven or hell. Someone committing crimes of this nature or magnitude are horrific but from my standpoint.... a death penalty is a way off. Life without the possibility of parole sounds fitting. Someone in prison can always be studied or interviewed for future reference and possibility thought patterns that "may" assist in future projects to figure out how and why people act the way they do in these type of situations. Although I doubt that is a resource the will use for many reasons.

I believe that death causes life to just go black. No chance for remorse...no chance to retribution, no chance for anything but the end. Theres no "judgment day". Being executed will put a strain on someone mentally, don't get me wrong but, once it's done, it's done.

There is no consistency in the justice system. The death penalty is not consistent state to state. The people that we put there sit.... for years. Someone in Texas can kill a fellow gang member and get death while someone in Michigan can beat and rape 20 woman, men, and children.... and kill them and get life as long as none of the victims are not a federal employee. Hows that work?

I have said many times that they should execute all molesters, rapists, and murders due to the fact that the chance of them being a positive place in the community are slim to none. The prisons being overcrowded are also a good reason. My tax dollars go to support the lowest forms of life..... so, make it unlivable. Take away the TV, take away all the amenities that they have. The human body can survive on cat food for instance.... let them eat that. And some off brand, not Fancy Feast.

Until they are consistent, let him rot in prison the rest of his life. Once we all get on the same page to just get rid of the infectious criminals.... build an oven and bake them.

You're ok with spending a couple million to keep this psychotic kid in prison till he dies of old age?

Yes.... because I don't have to. I have to spend my tax dollars in my state to do the same thing. That's why I brought up consistency. Why should he be put to death for his crimes and the state of Iowa get out of paying for his life sentence when I can't here for the same or even worse crimes?

I'm fine with the death penalty for many crimes... if we are consistent. The death penalty can not be brought up in "natural selection"... but it can be argued as "survival of the fittest."

Put things on beliefs. How I believe.... no afterlife. So the person who was killed is just gone. Their family suffers, not them. Biblically... they go to "heaven" So honestly, they are in a better place. Their family suffers, not them.

Honestly, I can see both sides really. I just don't see it being fair that someone in 1 state gets executed because of their crime, but another state gets life. It's the same country... make the laws consistant.

It takes more money to kill an inmate than keep them in jail for life, according to California records (and my Government teacher).

I wouldn't really think of it as an "eye for an eye", though. Like Newton's law of motion states, "for every action there's an equal but opposite reaction". In order to keep the motion of justice and life, I believe if you take someone's right to live, your right to live should be taken away all the same. Everyone has the right to do anything, correct? Of course there are positive rights and negative rights. It's all a simple matter of whether you decide to violate someone's rights, in which case, in a just world, the same would happen to you.

He should die. Maybe not this year or in the next decade, but eventually he should suffer the kind of pain he caused his victims and their families.

i can see how it would take more money to kill, if you were doing lethal injection or something fancy like that, but bullets are cheap

the firing squad was IMHO the absolute best execution style out there, that and the Iron Maiden

Honestly I think it is only fair for equal punishment but unfortunately we don't do that in the U.S. I mean I guess there are certain times when you have to evaluate if the person is really mentally unstable or just a loser. I know obviously there isn't something right in your head to do it in the first place but I mean like way mentally unbalanced if that makes sense..

Also why does MN have a gas station named "Kum & Go"?
Perverted or not that is a horrible name.

Kid is from MN, killed Iowa residents in Iowa...

You can't tell me the cost of 1 bullet > the cost of feeding, and providing for a mentally handicapped inmate for the rest of his lifespan.
